The Institute for the Study and Resolution of Childhood Crises was founded to find effective answers to the most urgent problems children face around the world. Our central subject of research is the crisis situations that shape a child's development and well-being: poverty, violence, lack of access to education and healthcare, armed conflict and social isolation.

We are convinced that childhood crises can only be resolved through a systematic, evidence-based approach. Our team brings together specialists from different fields — psychology, medicine and social work, alongside teachers and volunteers — to analyse, test and put into practice the solutions that work. A scientific foundation lets us trace problems to their root causes, develop methods of support, track results and scale up what succeeds.

We work through international research, pilot projects, training programmes and partnerships with non-profit, government and private organisations. Our aim is to build practical models of help for children, to support the professionals and families around them, and to raise public awareness. We believe that together we can give every child the chance of a safe and happy childhood.

Hunger and chronic malnutrition
  • We study how malnutrition affects children's physical and mental development.
Barriers to education
  • We analyse what keeps children out of quality education — conflict, poverty, cultural norms — and design programmes to bring them back and keep them there.


Violence and exploitation
  • We examine how children who have suffered violence can be protected and helped to rebuild their lives.
Safety and mental health
  • We develop methods of support for children who have lived through trauma and crisis.
Family breakdown
  • We look at what the loss of family ties, orphanhood and forced migration do to a child.
Social isolation and stigma
  • We study inclusion, support, and how to build a healthy environment around the child.
